how to give your kitchen the look of granite for less (tiling your countertops with granite tile)

by:KKR Solid Surface     2020-06-17
Recently, in a store, we saw granite slabs sold for nearly $40 per square foot, and in the same store we saw granite tiles less than $9 per square foot.
If done right, granite tile countertops are as elegant as granite slabs.
If you want to upgrade your kitchen countertop to make your entire kitchen look better and more beautiful, granite tiles are an economical way.
So here\'s a tutorial for you.
We hope this will inspire you to make your kitchen more upscale.
Required Tools: ceramic tile saw circular saw clamp saw hammer horizontal notch spatula rubber liner floating material required for grouting: stains-
3/4 \"plywood granite tiles (
We recommend 12x12)
Matching the granite tile nose sponge tape measure is the 1/16 \"tile spacer 1/4\" cement back plate ironing plate, first measure your old countertop and record all the measurements.
You need to buy enough plywood and cement backplates to cover the same amount of counters.
Most of the countertops are 25 inch deep, which should be the perfect depth for two 12x12 tiles and one nose.
Once you have all the material, remove your old KKR countertop and measure your plywood to cover every part of the KKR countertop.
Cut the plywood into the correct size with a round saw.
Now, don\'t worry about the spacing of the sink, just put the plywood where the sink is going.
Drill the plywood and screw it into a section of the counter of the cabinet at a time.
After all the plywood is fixed, you need to carefully measure your sink, accurately mark your measurement results, and then cut out the entire sink with your puzzle.
Make sure your sink hole is centered on the base.
Next is the cement back panel.
The cement board can be cut to the right size with a good blade and then broken like a drywall.
I usually put the cement plate on both sides of the hole in the sink, and then put the strip in front and back of the hole.
Cut the cement board into a material that matches the plywood and screw it into the plywood.
If your cement board is cut into a tight fit, all you need to do is put on the tile adhesive.
However, if there is a gap on the cement board, you can cover the gap using mesh tape.
Now you will want to start laying the tiles to determine exactly how they are installed.
Since this is a natural stone, not all tiles are equal.
I like to go with a darker tile and a darker nose and lay everything out to make sure it fits well.
Next, determine which tiles you need to cut and where to cut them and mark them clearly.
Cut those tiles off.
It\'s time to start dropping the tiles with tile adhesive.
I suggest doing this part of the counter at once.
Take your tile adhesive and start applying it to the cement board with your spatula.
Lay the tiles behind first, right next to the wall.
Put it in front and then close to the edge.
This should leave enough space for your nose to stick it down.
Make sure to apply a uniform layer of adhesive to the counter and work a few feet at a time.
Lay out your first tile and the tile next to it.
Place a tile gasket in two different positions between them to ensure a uniform gap between them.
Some tiles may be thinner than others.
That\'s your level.
Put your level on two tiles.
If it\'s not horizontal, put more adhesive under the lower until it\'s even.
Lay a whole section of the counter, lay adhesive on one side, and put the tiles on the top.
Continue to the next part of the counter and lay these tiles with adhesive.
Every part of the counter has its own way.
When you finish the last part, the first part should be dry.
This means it\'s time to start checking with mud.
Rubber filling grouting float is used between all cracks to obtain grouting.
Lay it there and wipe anything extra with a sponge.
Let the mud dry.
Do this in all parts of the countertop.
Once your counter is blocked, it\'s time to take on the tailgate.
Find out the design you want to use.
Using the exact same granite tiles and placing them along the back, any necessary cutting for power outlets, etc is perfectly acceptable.
However, some people may like to use glass mosaic tiles mixed with granite or make different patterns on the tailgate.
It depends entirely on you.
When the tailgate is applied, the tailgate is not required.
The tile adhesive can be placed directly on the wall or on the tile on the adhesive.
Just like the KKR countertop, once the adhesive is dry, continue to apply the mud and wipe the excess with a sponge.
After completing all the tailgates, the sink and faucet will be your finishing touches.
Go ahead and install the sink and faucet and you\'re finished!
